Tendon Repair & Chronic Tendon Pain

Specialist Shockwave Therapy Clinics for Persistent Tendon Problems

If you are struggling with chronic tendon pain, recurring injuries or a condition that has not improved with traditional treatment, our Shockwave Therapy Clinics provide a specialist approach combining advanced treatment with personalised rehabilitation.

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. It is commonly used for long-standing tendon injuries, tendinopathy, soft tissue pain and stubborn conditions affecting the muscles, tendons and bursae.

Our approach combines Shockwave Therapy, expert assessment and progressive rehabilitation exercises to help reduce pain, improve function and support a stronger long-term recovery.

Shockwave Therapy for Achilles Tendinopathy & Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles tendon pain is one of the most common lower limb tendon problems, affecting runners, athletes and active individuals, but also those who experience gradual tendon changes over time.

Shockwave Therapy may be used as part of a rehabilitation programme for:

  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Chronic Achilles pain
  • Tendon thickening and irritation
  • Reduced tolerance to walking, running or exercise

By combining Shockwave Therapy with targeted calf strengthening and movement rehabilitation, we aim to improve tendon capacity and help you return to your normal activities.

Shockwave Therapy for Tennis Elbow & Golfer’s Elbow

Persistent elbow pain can often be caused by tendon overload rather than a simple inflammation problem.

Shockwave Therapy is commonly used alongside rehabilitation for:

  • Tennis elbow (lateral elbow tendinopathy)
  • Golfer’s elbow (medial elbow tendinopathy)
  • Forearm tendon pain
  • Grip-related discomfort

Our clinicians assess the underlying cause of your symptoms and create a treatment plan designed around your work, lifestyle and activity goals.

Shockwave Therapy for Shoulder Tendinopathy & Bursitis

Shoulder pain can often involve irritation or overload of the rotator cuff tendons and surrounding structures.

Shockwave Therapy may be beneficial for conditions including:

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Supraspinatus tendon problems
  • Chronic shoulder pain
  • Subacromial bursitis
  • Painful shoulder movement

Treatment is combined with a structured strengthening programme to restore shoulder movement, control and confidence.

Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain

Long-term heel pain can be frustrating and impact everyday activities.

Shockwave Therapy is frequently used for:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Plantar heel pain
  • Chronic foot pain
  • Tendon-related discomfort around the ankle and foot

Our clinicians focus on identifying why the problem has developed and supporting your recovery with appropriate loading and rehabilitation.

  • Understanding what Shockwave therapy/ ECSWT does?

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment in acoustic shockwaves pass through the skin via a device to the affected area, and is often used in the treatment of tendon pathology for a number of musculoskeletal conditions. The shockwaves stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms to facilitate tendon repair. A normal course of treatment will consist of three sessions with no more than a two week gap between sessions. More sessions may be a consideration for chronic conditions.
  • What are the side effects of the treatment?

Most Common: A) Redness or bruising in the treated area. OR B) Skin damage OR C) An increase in pain in the treated area, this can be controlled with paracetamol, please do not take NSAIDs e.g. ibuprofen, naproxen. The practitioner providing the treatment will have checked your medical history to ensure that you are at minimal risk of any side effects. On the rare occasion there is the potential for tendon rupture.
  • Advice following treatment.

Following ECSWT maintain ‘normal’ levels of activity. Do not do anything you normally would not do. Avoid sport, any other aggravating activities, or any activities, which stress the effected / treated area, particularly for the next 48 hours. Do not use ice on the treated area or take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDS) e.g. ibuprofen, naproxen, as these may reduce the therapeutic effect of ECSWT.
